"In the woods" Skating Rink
Located just behind the MERC Hall back “in the woods”, this rink is usually ready for public skating and/or pick-up hockey in January to early March (weather permitting). It is equipped with lights for nighttime skating. Check MERC Facebook page for rink updates
Mr. Gordon MacCormack opened our trails over 45 years ago! The Maitland cross-country ski and snowshoe trail system are relatively flat trails. Our orange outer loop trail is approximately 7.5 km with many shorter trails bisecting it. You can enjoy your ski/snowshoe experience by making it as long or short as you wish. We use our trail system thanks to the generosity of several landowners.
We're located at the east end of McLean Boulevard East in Maitland. The main trailhead is behind the MERC Hall, up past the rink. There is lots of parking in the MERC lot. We have a new outhouse on site as well as shelter, signage and updated maps (available at trailhead), thanks to a Canada 150 grant.
The trail system is maintained by MERC volunteers with machine grooming performed as conditions permit.
Using our trails is at your own risk. Donations are gratefully accepted. Please consider emailing or giving us a call to volunteer.
